Myotherapy at Movement Studio

What is Myotherapy?

Myotherapy is the assessment, treatment and management of musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction of the muscles, joints, nerves, tendons and fascia. The aim is to restore the normal function, movement and mobility of these soft tissue structures through a range of treatment techniques.

If it’s your first Myotherapy appointment your practitioner will make a point of discussing your health and lifestyle as well as what you’re looking to achieve with Myotherapy. If you have the relevant Private Health Insurance cover, you are able to claim your rebate on the day using HICAPs and simply pay the gap fee.

Below are a number of techniques and modalities that the Myotherapists at Movement Studio are able to use during your treatment.

Dynamic Taping

Dynamic Taping is a rehabilitative taping technique that is designed to encourage the body’s natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion as well as providing extended soft tissue manipulation to prolong the benefits of manual therapy administered by your chiropractor.

Many elite athletes have embraced Dynamic Taping as a way to encourage fast recovery from exercise and injury – some as a fashion statement!

Dry Needling

Dry needling uses one or more solid filament needles, similar to acupuncture needles, inserted by the chiropractor into the target muscle tissue – also known as a trigger point – for its therapeutic effect in releasing tension, pain and soreness.

The evidence base for acupuncture or dry needling has increased substantially over the past decade. In particular, research has grown to provide evidence-based support in the treatment of acute and chronic back pain, chronic neck pain, tension type and migraine headaches, pelvic pain, knee osteoarthritis, lateral elbow pain and shoulder conditions.

Myofascial/ Functional Release Cupping

Functional Release cupping works by applying cups in relevant areas of concern and integrating dynamic, functional movement to affect a positive change in movement restrictions.

Pregnancy Massage

Remedial Massage during pregnancy is a great way to ease general discomfort. Remedial Massage during pregnancy can help to relieve stress, reduce swelling and relieve muscle and joint pain. Your therapist will talk you through any questions or concerns you may have receiving therapy during pregnancy.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage is a massage technique mainly used to treat strains and sports injuries that involves applying firm, sustained pressure using slow, deep strokes to target muscles and connective tissues.

Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger point therapy is a commonly used technique in manual therapy to treat knotted muscles. Direct, firm pressure is applied to identified areas of concern for a longer duration, or until muscle release is felt.

Pre and Post Event Massage

Massage before and after training or performance can help reduce muscle soreness, reduce inflammation and can reduce recovery time significantly.
